It has been mandated by the government of Saskatchewan that no pharmacy is allowed to keep tobacco and related precuts at the store with the intention of selling them.
Although, the ban has allowed retail stores for the sale of the tobacco products, it has been suggested that they must possess a separate entrance if they wish to serve the purpose.
It has also been announced that those found violating the law will face a fine of no less than $500.

Tobacco products are very hazardous to your health, so the City Council wants to take them off the shelf, but the ironic thing is they decided that they only want to take them out of stores that have pharmacies.
I understand that cigarettes and other tobacco products are very unhealthy and dangerous, but taking them off the shelf in just pharmacies isn’t going to really make a difference in the percentages of people using these products every day. Some people may not even buy their cigarettes at a store with a pharmacy in it so they will continue to buy them from wherever they normally get ...

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois House voted Tuesday to lift a smoking ban in all of the state’s casinos during a debate that pitted the health of bettors and casino workers against hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenues.
The proposal, which passed 62-52 and now moves to the state Senate, represents a significant softening of the state’s 2008 anti-smoking law that banned tobacco use in virtually all indoor public areas.
“Ladies and gentleman, if we’re serious about our budget crisis in Illinois, let’s be real. This is not about the smoking issue. This is about the money,” sa ... Jump to full article >>

Opponents of the proposed smoking ban say the measure, if approved, would be among the strictest in the state.
Unlike smoking bans adopted recently in other Missouri cities — and three others up for vote April 5 — the proposed Springfield ordinance contains almost no exceptions.
The ban, which covers electronic cigarettes as well as traditional tobacco products, allows smoking indoors only in private homes and vehicles and up to a quarter of the rooms for rent in hotels.
In contrast, ordinances going before voters in Cape Girardeau, O’Fallon and Webb City all include exemptio ... Jump to full article >>

An extension of an existing ordinance that temporarily bans cigarette, tobacco and “head shops” within the city limits is among the items expected before the Buellton City Council on Saturday as part of an annual retreat.
The agenda for the special meeting is also set to include an ad hoc committee update on the Zaca Creek Golf Course and reports on various items from City Manager Jim Kunkel and department heads.
Among items, Kunkel is asking for council direction regarding the formation of a committee to study a proposed 2012 ballot measure seeking to change Buellton from a general law ci ...

Government parties are however resisting the move due to lack of available data connecting a ban with a decrease in tobacco sales.
Eva Olofsson, of the Left Party, is one of the advocates for a ban.
“The aim is to get less people overall to smoke and less children and young people to start smoking. To achieve that, sales must decrease. This might be one way to tackle that,“ she said to Sveriges Radio (SR).
The UK Health Department decided earlier this month to ban tobacco displays from large stores in England from April 2012, with smaller shops following suit by 2015 at the latest.

A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel urged a ban on menthol cigarettes because they believe a ban would be beneficial to public health.
Research done by the Tobacco Product Scientific Advisory Committee over the past year has concluded that menthol makes cigarettes more enticing for youths and African Americans, thus making it harder for these groups to quit smoking.
Menthol is an active pharmaceutical ingredient that can be found in throat lozenges and cold and cough medicines. The amount of menthol in medicine is regulated by the FDA, but before this study the amount of menthol in ... According to Rajesh Malpani, secretary general of the Smokeless Tobacco Federation (India), 1 March is too tight a deadline to consider the cost effectiveness of any substitute and develop new packaging manufacturing systems to replace the banned plastic pouches for chewing tobacco which were banned due to complaints about their lack of biodegradability and recyclability. “I am not sure that any feasible option will come even in next six months,” he tells TJI.
